Supply chain analysts monitor the performance of a company’s supply chain, analyzing data and processes to ensure maximum efficiency. A successful supply chain analyst resume should show critical thinking, analytical skills, and the required experience and education.

Here’s how to write a supply chain analyst resume that never runs out of stock:

1. Format Your Supply Chain Analyst Resume Correctly

You know all about presenting complex data in a way that makes it easy to understand. Just like a well-organized dashboard, your resume needs to follow certain conventions to make sense to others—

So before you start typing, format your resume document to deliver the best possible experience for the reader:

Supply Chain Analyst Resume Format

Unless you’ve been asked to send in a Word Doc, submit your resume as a PDF file. This format will keep your resume layout consistent across multiple devices.

2. Open With an Impressive Supply Chain Analyst Resume Objective or Summary

Your resume profile section is a 2–4-sentence executive summary of the data contained in your document. Think of it as an abstract or an elevator pitch—

It aims to catch the reader’s attention by immediately proving you could be the perfect candidate for the role. The rest of your resume will show you are the ideal candidate, but a teaser is recommended for now.

Here’s how to structure your resume summary paragraph

  1. Describe your work ethic with one adjective (efficient, detail-oriented, data-driven, reliable)
  2. State your job title (supply chain analyst) and years of experience (2+, 5+)
  3. Offer to contribute to the team if hired (eager to apply expertise towards driving efficiency and logistical excellence at XYZ Company)
  4. Give an overview of a couple of your best professional achievements (predicted quarterly and yearly demand figures with 98% accuracy; cut lead times by 10%)

Alright—

But what if you don’t have anything to use for Step 4 just yet? Instead, write a resume objective statement—substitute supply chain achievements with relevant accomplishments from school, internships, volunteering, or related jobs.

Starting your resume is arguably the most challenging part of the process. If you’re hitting a wall, skip the introduction and focus on the rest of your document. It’ll all come together in the end.

Expert hint: The number of vacancies in logistics is growing much faster than average—it’s expected to increase by a significant 28% in the coming years. Experts attribute this growth to the increasing popularity of online shopping and the demands placed upon global logistics solutions by the e-commerce industry. If you’re still looking for your niche within supply chain analysis, e-commerce may be the way to go.

3. Allocate Achievements to Your Job Description and Pick The Best Skills

Your experience is your most valuable asset—

That’s what you’re sending to the employer—the resume is more like packaging. They want to know that you’re capable of performing the duties they need you to handle—and the best way to show that is by proving you’ve done it before with excellent results.

Here are the steps to writing a practical supply chain analyst job description for your resume work experience section

  1. Review the data in the job ad, filtering for crucial terms, such as the skills the employer requires.
  2. Your next data set is your experience so far. When did those skills crop up in your duties in previous jobs? Extract examples of when you used them to achieve specific results.
  3. Turn those examples into bullet points to describe your achievements on your resume. That’s right, achievements: no bland ‘duties and responsibilities’ for you; you’re giving the employer concrete facts about your performance, with numbers (percentages, amounts).

The purpose of using skills from the ad to inform your choice of bullet points is two-fold:

First, it targets your resume to the position, making it look like you were born to be this company’s new analyst. Secondly, it helps with the ATS—

Most large companies use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to automate initial resume scans. Score high using resume keywords (those skills and phrases from the ad), and you’re ensuring your resume reaches the recruiter.

Now, make your resume even more ATS-friendly by including extra keywords in your key skills section

Pick up to 10 most relevant skills, including a mix of soft and hard ones from the ad and this supply chain analyst skills list:

4. Enter the Details of Your Education

Got a few years’ experience in supply chain analysis? Luckily, all you need to list in your resume education section are the basics. Your highest completed level of schooling will do, including the school's name and years of attendance.

If you’re not quite so fortunate, don’t worry—it’ll only take a minute. Add a few bullet points to your education to show your potential. A high (3.7+) GPA, extracurriculars, academic achievements, projects, and relevant coursework can go on your resume as proof of your skills.

Expert hint: 62% of supply chain analyst jobs require a Bachelor’s degree. If you don’t have one yet, completing a relevant Bachelor’s program would open up many additional opportunities.

5. Fill Up the Remaining Space on Your Supply Chain Analyst Resume With Extra Cargo

If you’ve been careful about the distribution of your assets, there should still be a bit of space left on your resume—

Use it for anything else you want to mention that will help your application, such as:

You can mention your interests on your resume if this information adds value to your resume. For example, running a blog on emerging tech is a more relevant and impactful interest for your role than, say, gardening on weekends.

Now, for your last-mile delivery (except it won’t cost you a dime)—Write a cover letter to complement your supply chain analyst resume. A supply chain cover letter won’t take long, but it’ll allow you to dispatch additional reasons why they should hire you.
